Billings Poetry SlamThe Alberta Bair Theater Education Dept is looking for high school and college students from Billings and the surrounding area schools who want to compete in an upcoming Poetry Slam. In order to be eligible to participate in the Slam, students must submit one to three original poems to the ABT Education Department. The deadline to submit the application and poetry is Wednesday, December 16. Individual and group poetry are both encouraged. A committee of local teachers, artists and community members will determine the top twelve individual or group poets who will be eligible to compete in the Slam. The selected poets will be notified on December 18.

The Billings Poetry Slam presented by the Alberta Bair Theater and Venture Theatre - will take place on Sunday, January 10 at 2pm at Venture Theatre. Tickets are $5/Adults and $3/Students, available at the door. All participants in the Billings Poetry Slam will also be eligible for cash prizes. The top three winners of the Poetry Slam will be invited to open for two matinee school performances of The Mayhem Poets at the Alberta Bair Theater on Tuesday, January 12 at 9:30am and 12:30pm.

Utilizing hip-hop rhythms and dynamic theatrical techniques, The Mayhem Poets have developed powerful performances to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to craft and perform original poetry. Taking on everything from Dr. Seuss to fast food to love, these beat-boxing bards from New York City keep the rapid-fire rhythms flying in this clever concert of words. Tickets are available for both shows. Call the ABT ticket office, 256 6052, Monday through Saturday, 10am 5:30pm.
