Butte, AmericaAcclaimed Documentary on Butte, Montana Comes to the Babcock Theatre, October 17
Butte, America, a new film by Rattlesnake Productions and Emmy-nominated Montana filmmaker Pamela Roberts, is showing at 4pm and again at 7pm, on Saturday, October 17 at the historic Babcock Theatre in downtown Billings. A short Q & A with filmmaker Pam Roberts will follow after the film.
Butte, America, narrated by Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, tells the poignant tale of two cities—one above ground, another below—and the triumphs and tragedies that joined them together over the last 120 years. Told through the lives of five-generation Butte mining families, Butte, America is a tribute to working class men and women—those who had the most to lose and the least to gain from the powerful copper industry.
Montana author Tom McGuane commented, “Butte, America captures the gravity and history of the most interesting city in the American West. A memorable film about an unforgettable place.”
After ten years in the making, Butte America has repeatedly sold out to capacity crowds. The Billings showings at the Babcock on Saturday, October 17, are the final public showing in Montana before the documentary is airs on PBS as part of its documentary series Independent Lens.
